CAAHTT Accomplishments

United in Professional Pride

The Canadian Association of Animal Technologists and Technicians was founded in 1989 by representatives of the provincial associations in Canada. Following that, the associations worked collectively to establish a common national exam, reciprocity for the members, mandatory continuing education and increased communication between the associations. CAAHTT has continually sought information and planned for results that will positively impact the future of AHT/RVT/VT’s in Canada. It is the joining of these provincial associations that makes CAAHTT truly a national body discussing issues with a national focus and playing an integral part in international issues. CAAHTT has established relationships with influential associations and companies such as the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA), National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) of the United States, the International Veterinary Nurses and Technicians Association (IVNTA) and Hill’s Pet Nutrition Canada Inc. AHT/RVT of the Year Award.

    Members benefit:
  • Two representatives of CAAHTT appointed to the CVMA Animal Health Technology/Veterinary Technician Program Accreditation Committee (AHT/VT PAC)
  • Two representatives of CAAHTT appointed to the CVMA Professional Development Committee (PDC)
  • One representative of CAAHTT appointed to the CVMA Canadian Veterinary Reserve Committee (CVR)
  • American Veterinary Medical Association recognition of CVMA Accreditation of AHT/VT programs
  • Two representatives of CAAHTT appointed to the Veterinary Technician Testing Committee (VTTC)
  • Translation of the National Registration Exam to French
  • Communication links with the provincial VMA’s, AAVSB, AVMA, CVTEA, AAHA, AVTE, CAHI, CALAS
  • CAAHTT continually updates the provincial associations on issues and developments in the field, resulting in active collaboration bringing the players together to identify common goals and to provide a forum for resolving concerns
  • CAAHTT is a part of the decision-making process that influences the future of AHT/VT’s in Canada
  • Promotion of National Veterinary Technician Week
  • Printing and distribution of a NVTW Poster to every active member and AHT/VT program in Canada
  • Partnering with the CVMA at the annual summer meetings: full inclusion of technicians in the scientific program, representation at the Canadian Veterinary Summit, annual Presidential meeting
  • Benefits of a huge lobbying power of AHT/VT’s all joined as one national voice to protect and promote your profession
  • Member surveys that influence the association’s direction on issues important to AHT//VT’s
  • Sample employment contracts available for AHT/VT’s and their employers
  • Promotion of Doggone Safe – National Dog Bite Prevention Program
  • Promotion of a nation wide CE Publication for technicians
  • Printing and distribution of a National Events Calendar to every active member and AHT/VT student in Canada

Members continue to reap rewards as CAAHTT continues to maintain a high level of recognition from the animal health industry. CAAHTT has made impressive strides in coordinating national and provincial activities and is the envy of many national federations.

CAAHTT is unique in that all active registered technicians in Canada play an indirect and vital role in the progress of this association. With the continued support of its member associations, CAAHTT will continue to grow in its role for promotion of technicians all across Canada.
