WHAT IS NATIONAL UNITY?

Since 1989 the seven Provincial Associations in Canada have enjoyed the benefit of belonging to a national association that works hard to promote unity, the profession, and represents the interest of over 2500 AHT/VT/RVTs that belong to the Associations (see CAAHTT Accomplishments).

Following are just some of the things a national voice provides for the Animal Health Technology / Veterinary Technician / Registered Veterinary Technician profession in Canada.

Unity – Unity amongst AHT/VT/RVTs in Canada speaks volumes to the veterinary profession, the North American and International Veterinary Nurses and Veterinary Technicians, industry, affiliated and allied groups in Canada and the U.S.

Uniqueness – Canada has always held a position of uniqueness, on the International scene, in the way this national association is operated with provincial association membership. Each of the seven associations is the voice for CAAHTT.

Canadian Veterinary Medical Association – CAAHTT has a very close relationship with the CVMA, meeting with them annually for a Presidential Meeting to discuss issues that are common to both professions.

Lobbying Power – with CAAHTT’s large membership base, more groups listen to our concerns and we influence decisions made on behalf of AHTs/VTs/RVTs nationwide – this is a powerful voice.

Committees – CAAHTT has worked hard to secure representation on committees that affect our input into our own profession such as the VTTC, AHT/VT PAC, and the CVR. CAAHTT values the contributions that these members are making. Committee appointments are approved by CAAHTT and are represented by technicians from all across Canada.

National Exam – CAAHTT has supported the implementation of a national exam that is common to all the associations.

Member Movement – Is a national initiative that is upheld by the Provincial Associations that comprise the membership of CAAHTT.

Education – when CAAHTT started, it was unknown (see History on www.caahtt-acttsa.ca) even how many programs taught technicians. CAAHTT now maintains an extensive contact list of staff, programs and sends important bulletins and benefits for students.

Information – CAAHTT is able to coordinate resources for the Provincial Associations and provide information very quickly.

Industry – Recognizes that the Provincial Associations work together and applaud the fact that common goals of continuing education and promotion are shared.

National Journal – CAAHTT supports a national magazine that is produced by a Provincial Association that supports CAAHTT.
