Inquiry - WORKING IN CANADA
- Veterinary Nurses / Animal Health Technologists/ Veterinary Technicians

The Canadian Association of Animal Technologists and Technicians was founded in 1989 by representatives of the provincial associations in Canada. CAAHTT serves to unite the associations through communication, leadership and supportive initiatives. It is the joining of these provincial associations that makes CAAHTT truly a national body discussing national issues and playing an integral part in international issues.

CAAHTT does not govern or register/license technicians. In Canada, legislative authority to regulate the practice of professions and trades is a provincial responsibility. Each provincial association regulates its own membership and is compulsory in some provinces. All use a national exam (Veterinary Technician National Exam VTNE), and require graduation from an approved program that trains technicians as part of the registration criteria. Please contact the individual Provincial
AHT/VT Associations to inquire if they recognize foreign VN/AHT/VT diplomas.

Contacting a provincial association at the location that interests you to investigate the qualifications and requirements for membership is strongly recommended. The Canadian Information Center for International Credentials - www.cicic.ca/professions/3213en.asp is also recommended as a source for information. Membership in your local Veterinary Nurse Association is beneficial.

Provincial associations are the best source for employment opportunities. They may advertise your situation in their newsletter. Another source to investigate is the provincial veterinary association’s newsletter. The province of Quebec, the association called ATSAQ, is primarily a French speaking province. International jobs may be found on these websites: hotjobs.com, headhunter.net, careerbuilder.com, overseasjobs.com, www.stepstone.com & planetrecruit.com.

We recommend that you contact your local authorities or embassy for details regarding work visas and requirements for working overseas.
